Overview of Sainik Schools
Sainik Schools are a system of schools in India established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence. They were conceived in 1961 by V. K. Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India, to rectify the regional and class imbalance amongst the Officer Cadre of the Indian Military and to bring quality public school education to the rural areas.
The main aim of Sainik Schools is to prepare students for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla and other Military schools/Training Institutions in India. They provide physical, moral, and academic education in a public school atmosphere. Sainik Schools admit students from Class VI onwards and the environment in these schools is highly disciplined and oriented towards military training.
The curriculum of Sainik Schools is based on the CBSE syllabus. Students are encouraged to take part in various extra-curricular activities such as sports, music, dance and drama. NCC training is compulsory for all students of Sainik Schools.
Sainik Schools have provided a platform for the young generation of India to realize their potential and fulfill their dreams of becoming responsible citizens of the nation. The alumni of these schools serve in the highest echelons of the Indian Armed Forces.
